Campus Advocates Respond and Educate (CARE) to Stop Violence

  • CARE to Stop Violence is the primary confidential resource for students impacted by sexual violence. CARE has trained, professional advocates who provide resources, support, and assistance via email, telephone, or in person. CARE’s services include crisis intervention, short term counseling, and assistance in accessing other on or off campus resources. CARE also provides training and educational programs, including the University’s bystander intervention program, Step Up!

Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy (MICA)

  • The Office of Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy [MICA], a unit within the Adele H.   • The Office of Diversity & Inclusion encourages and supports the efforts of units throughout the University to achieve their diversity and inclusion goals. University of Maryland Police Department (UMPD)

  • Depending on the specifics of the conduct, an act of discrimination, hate bias, or sexual misconduct (particularly sexual violence) may be a crime, in addition to being a violation of University policies. The University will assist complainants who wish to report sexual or other misconduct to law enforcement authorities, including campus police. Representatives of OCRSM, OSC, Office of Rights & Responsibilities, and Campus Advocates Respond and Educate (CARE) to Stop Violence Office in the University Health Center are available to assist students and/or employees in reporting to campus police. Campus police will also assist complainants in notifying other law enforcement authorities in other jurisdictions, as appropriate.

Student Legal Aid

  • The Undergraduate Student Legal Aid Office provides free assistance to currently-enrolled full-time University of Maryland undergraduate students. Funded by the Student Government Association, the Student Legal Aid Office has been assisting university students with legal questions since 1976. Legal services are categorized into two types: students with general legal questions and students seeking assistance regarding university charges.

Undocumented Student Resources

  • The University of Maryland is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, including undocumented students. Undocumented students, who often face barriers and challenges as they navigate campus policies, require support services that address their unique needs. As such, the Office of Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy (MICA) and the Asian American Studies Program (AAST) have partnered with other UMD departments and allies to increase institutional support for undocumented students, providing advising related to financial aid and admissions. Ultimately, the University strives to provide resources and guidance to support the advancement of undocumented students during their time at Maryland.

Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP)

  • This program is a confidential assessment, referral, and counseling service staffed by trained mental health professionals. FSAP is available to all University of Maryland employees and their family members at no charge. Faculty and staff may consult with a counselor for many different reasons, including sexual misconduct.

Center for Healthy Families

  • The Center for Healthy Families provides couples, marriage and family therapy as well as parent education. Services are offered to residents of surrounding communities. All marriage and family therapy services are supervised by the senior clinical faculty of the Department of Family Science. Make an appointment to see a family therapist by calling the Center for Healthy Families. Fees are on a sliding scale ranging from $20 to $60 per session based on a family's income.

Maryland Psychotherapy Clinic & Research Lab

  • The Maryland Psychotherapy Clinic and Research Lab (MPCRL) provides high-quality, low-cost couseling and psychotherapy to adults in the community.  Registered University of Maryland students are NOT eligible for these services.  These services can be helpful for students after graduation, significant others and families of students.  Treatment at MPCRL focuses on gaining insight and understanding of problems in relationships, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, meaning of life, dreams and nightmares. Services are provided by advanced doctoral students supervised by licensed psychologists.
